The Royal Pavilion at Brighton 1978
We are talking about a dream of grandeur. A dream few men would dare for they have neither the wealth nor the power nor the imagination to make it a reality.
There once was a Prince, who later became Kind George IV of England. From the time he caught his first glimpse of an English seaside spa called Brighton his dream was to build a personal and private retreat in that green and serene city. It would become not only the singular expression of his passionate aestheticism - but also one of the wonders of the world.
The turrets and the towers, the domes and the spires and the arches, the gardens and the stone balustrades he saw in his mind became tangible as he worked for decades with three of Englands most illustrious architects to build and furnish what was to become known as The Royal Pavilion at Brighton.
And the world became, not a series of countries and continents, but a treasury that would yield its greatset porcelains and paintings, its choicest Chinoiserie, its crystals and bronzes, its furniture and decorative accessories - all for the glory of The Royal Pavilion at Brighton.
The Brighton Pavilion and its flowering gave birth under the auspices of George IV to one of Englands most elegant epochs. The Regency Period. It was a rich celebration of art and architecture, music, dancing and witty conversation, fine and fanciful clothes for both ladies and gentlemen. The Royal Pavilion at Brighton endures today and it is a testament to the unique vision of a most extraordinary man, George IV, who transformed his singular vision into enduring fable and obsession into art to give us all a fantastic pageant, a never-ending dream, a sense of splendour like none ever known before or since.
Elizabeth Arden was honored to be authorised by the Royal Pavilion at Brighton to re-create the legendary designs and motifs for the magnificent Elizabeth Arden Christmas collection for 1978. This incuded the Regency collection for the new Cabriole fragrance.
